Well that's it, round one is done and dusted!

It was a great day for Adam Scott and Marc Leishman who are both in the top-5.

Coming as somewhat of a shock to Aussie golf fans Jason Day struggled with his putter finishing well down the leaderboard at 3-over T53.

John Senden went quietly about his business finishing even par while Steven Bowditch and Matt Jones are both 2-over T40.

Oliver Goss is positive after his first round of a Major. He is 4-over T67 and co-leading amateur.

Enjoy the next two rounds and we will be back with you at 5am Monday morning.

  • I can accept the odd poor shot but making a mistake like that is pretty frustrating and so unlike me.....
  • Got a 2 shot penalty on the 9th today. Left my bunker shot in the bunker and touched the sand before my next shot. Pretty dumb mistake
  • Nothing like the #Masters music to remind you it's a Friday morning
  • Adam Scott can jump to World No. 1 this week if he finishes in a two-way tie for third at the #Masters or better #ScottyStats
  • Somewhat interesting: The last 8 #Masters winners have been T-10 or better after Round 1.
  • Phil Mickelson is in with 76, tying his highest opening #Masters round ever ('97, '07).

  • 4/10/2014 11:25:22 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
  • What a feeling, completing my first round in @The_Masters Tournament, (76) +4 bit up and down round but just happy and honored to play!
  • 4/10/2014 11:21:17 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Reports coming in from Aussie journos on site at Augusta is that Jason Day's hand and thumb is fine he just needs to work on his putting.

Day is still up beat as he heads to the practice green.

  • You try and play every tournament like it's the Masters but when you play the Masters you try and treat it like a normal tournament

How the Aussies stand after Round 1:

    Adam Scott:  -3,  T2
    Marc Leishman:  -2,  T5
    John  Senden:  E,  T20
    Steven Bowditch:  +2,  T41
    Matt Jones:  +2,  T41
    Jason Day:  +3,  T54
    Oliver Goss:  +4,  T67 and co-leading amateur
  • Leishman pulled his drive left got a break into fairway, then ripped a six-iron to 4 feet and made it to go -2! @The_Masters
  • 4/10/2014 11:08:35 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
That tee shot on 18 is seriously intimidating.

Those bunkers stare you right in the face and you can't see any fairway to the right of them.

No problems for Leishman though who made a birdie there today.

Jason Dufner teeing off 18 today

Could we be seeing these two in the final group on Sunday again? #WeHopeSo

  • 4/10/2014 10:58:29 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Yes!! Marc Leishman birdies the last to finish at  2-under to be  T5 with a group  of six others including Brandt Snedeker and Kevin Stadler.

Leishman joins Scott in the top-5 making it two Aussies right in the mix after the first round!
  • Love this from Adam Scott. Says he feels no pressure: "I was out thinking ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ I’m still a Masters champion!”
  • A birdie on 18 would move Leishman into the top 5 with Adam Scott #fingerscrossed
  • 4/10/2014 10:46:04 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
What a great second shot into 18 from Leishman!

A birdie would be a beautiful way to close out the first round Aussie assault on Augusta!

  • 4/10/2014 10:42:22 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Jason Day's first round leaves plenty of room for improvement tomorrow.

  • 4/10/2014 10:37:49 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Marc Leishman loves a par-5 at Augusta. Today he birdied all of them bar the 15th.

Here is a video of his birdie on the 13th.

Leishman in now the last Aussie on course. Tune into 7Mate or FoxSports3 to watch him close out his round.
  • Day cleans up and he'll sign for a 75. Interested to see how his hand feels. @The_Masters
  • A triple and a double today for Phil. That is nearly impossible to overcome. None of last 5 winners had worse than bogey. #Masters
  • 4/10/2014 10:24:14 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
What a crazy round for Phil Mickelson! He just put one in the water from 50m on the 15th.

Meanwhile Jason Day is playing the 18th and Marc Leishman is on 17. They are the only remaining Aussies on course in the first round.
  • It's a cracking #Masters R1 leaderboard: -4 Haas, -3 Scott, Oosthuizen, Watson, -2 Stadler, Woodland, Walker, Snedeker, Blixt & Choi
  • Birdie for @JDayGolf at 17, his nemesis last year, and he's fighting hard at +3.
  • Just spoke to @olliegossAUS -- seriously will be enormous if he continues at this rate. A super impressive young man.
  • Jason Day drains a bomb for birdie. Will do his confidence the world of good. #AussieAssaultOnAugusta #Masters2014
  • 4/10/2014 10:07:44 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
It's been a long time between birdies for  Jason Day in the first round.

His first came at the 2nd and he just got his second of the round on the 17th.

    Day is now
3-over and T57. We have seen a number of players birdie the 18th today, it would be great to see Day put one more on his card to finish.

  • Leishman from the greenside bunker on 15...out to about 7 feet and he'll have that putt to move to -2 and a tie for 5th @The_Masters
  • 4/10/2014 9:57:13 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
West Australian Amateur Oliver Goss finishes at 4-over in the opening round of his Masters debut.

He closed with a bogey but there are still plenty of positive signs for him to take from his first competitive round at Augusta.

    Goss is tied leading amateur.

  • Good start.. Now the fun starts... Tune in because the course is going to be beautiful and as fast as I have ever seen it!!
  • Way to finish a round Louis Oosthuizen! On the hunt for green jacket. #Masters2014 #golffi
  • Looking to rebound from last year's MC, Louis Oosthuizen (-3) finishes up with birdie on the 18th to sit T-2 with Adam Scott.
  • 4/10/2014 9:48:32 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Finishing T2 with Adam Scott is Louis Oosthuizen.

He has a very interesting history at The Masters having played five times and making the cut just once.

When he did make the cut in 2012, he finished runner-up behind Bubba Watson who defeated Oosthuizen on the second playoff hole.

  • 4/10/2014 9:28:28 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Marc Leishman just made a nice birdie on the par-5 13th.

He is just so good with the flat stick!

Leishman is now 1-under and T11.

Here is a replay of that Phil Mickelson  putt on the 10th ...

  • Did anyone else just see Phil Mickelson's put?? That's what the #Masters is about! #wow
  • 4/10/2014 9:04:12 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
While the Aussies have gone a little quiet, Phil Mickelson is bringing the highlights with an  incredible birdie putt on the par-4 10th.

He is getting himself up and about with a huge celebration.

It's definitely worth tuning into Channel 7 Mate or FoxSports
3 to  try and catch a replay.
  • 4/10/2014 8:59:48 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
So far its been a uncharacteristically tough day for Jason Day at Augusta National.

He dropped five shots in four holes to be 4-over after 13 holes.

Let's hope he can get some of that Jason Day magic happening on his closing four holes.

  • 4/10/2014 8:46:24 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
Steven Bowditch made his Masters debut today but was finished before TV coverage started.

You will see from his scorecard below that he came unstuck on the 9th. Here is a great article from Mark Hayes at The Herald Sun which explains what happened and Bowditch's thoughts on the situation.

    Friday 11th April, 6.24am
Adam Scott may be finished but there is still plenty of golf to watch for Aussie fans with Marc Leishman, Oliver Goss, Jason Day and Matt Jones on course.

The best of the four is Leishman who is even par heading to the back nine at Augusta with two birdies and two bogeys on the scorecard.

Matt Jones is currently playing the 18th and has had a very mixed back nine.
He has five bogeys, a birdie, eagle and par on his scorecard. Only earning his invite last week Jones had just two days to experience the Augusta layout before teeing off today.

19-year-old Oliver Goss had a tough start making four bogeys before earning his first birdie on the par-5 8th.

Renowned for strength and length off the tee, Goss also made a birdie on par-5 13th.
Making the cut would be a nice present for Goss who celebrates his 20th birthday on Saturday.

The biggest shock for Aussie fans would be seeing Jason Day’s name well down on the leaderboard at T60th on 3-over the card.

Adam Scott all smiles after round 1

"I received the most incredible ovation as I came to the 12th. I got a bit caught up in it and hit the worst shot of the day," said Adam Scott. He ended up in Rae's Creek. This was the first time he has ever found water on the 12th.

  • 4/10/2014 8:14:08 PM | Nicole O'Farrell
"There was certainly a level of comfort on the first tee today. It was a beautiful day to play golf and I enjoyed it out there," Adam Scott.

  • How about Adam Scott! Starting the #Masters with the exact first-round score he had when he won last year, scoring a -3 & sitting in second.

For all those wondering what crystal prize Mark Hayes is referring to its another of the lovely traditions of Augusta.

There are several awards presented to players who perform exceptional feats during the tournament.

The player who has the daily lowest score receives a crystal vase, while players who score a hole in one
or a double eagle win a large crystal bowl.

    For each
eagle a player makes he receives a pair of crystal goblets.

The winner of the par 3 competition, which is played the day before the tournament
    begins, wins a crystal bowl.

Aussie Matt Jones has just made a fantastic putt for eagle at the 13th.

He is the first player to eagle this hole in the 2014 Masters.

Jones now moves to even par and is tied 22nd with 14 other players including John Senden who has finished his round and Marc Leishman who is thru five holes.

In 2014 PGA Tour of Australasia Director of Tournaments Andrew Langford-Jones is a rules official at Augusta for the 13th year. Here is his inside guide to Augusta which includes a look at the 13th hole.

    Friday 11th April, 5.15am

Welcome to the 2014 Masters Championship!

For those waking up around the country, Defending Champion Adam Scott has a share of the lead at 3-under the card with Bill Haas, Brandt Snedeker, and Louis Oosthuizen.

Scott was in the outright lead after a birdie at the 11th however a double bogey at the 12th dropped him back on the leaderboard. He recovered nicely with a birdie on the 14th.

All week Scott has spoken of his desire to retain the Green Jacket. He is aiming to become just the fourth person to do so.

If he maintains a share or the lead at the end of the first round he will be the first Defending Champion to do so in 19 years.

Much has been spoken about Jason Day and his thumb injury heading into The Masters but he has a good track record at Augusta. He has played twice finishing inside the top-3.

Today he is 1-under after six holes.

John Senden and Steven Bowditch are the only Aussies to have finished their rounds. They are even par and 2-over the card respectively.

Also at 2-over is Matt Jones after 12 holes while Marc Leishman is even par after five holes.

West Australian amateur Oliver Goss is 3-over after heading onto the back nine. However his confidence will have taken a boost from making birdie on the 8th, his first for the day.
